A production does not need music because of the technology used to create it. It needs music that works with the picture, supports the story and can be licensed with a clear understanding of the rights and terms involved.
That principle guides Shadow Lantern Studios. Artificial intelligence is part of our production process, but the objective remains the same: to provide useful, distinctive music that serves the creative needs of a scene.

Shadow Lantern Studios works with AI across its catalogue. Our own originals and selected music from independent creators can involve different combinations of AI generation and human creativity. We assess each track individually and document its production background as part of our curation process.
We believe a music supervisor, producer or other licensee should know this before licensing a track. We therefore identify our production approach openly rather than relying on the listener to discover it later.
Transparency does not replace musical quality. It simply ensures that the creative and licensing conversation begins with accurate information.
Rights & Provenance
Documentation matters.
The legal treatment of AI-generated content continues to develop across jurisdictions. Shadow Lantern therefore distinguishes between questions of statutory copyright and the contractual rights, permissions, assignments and commercial controls associated with creating and licensing a recording.
Platform Records
For qualifying Shadow Lantern Originals, records relating to the AI platform and applicable commercial-use or ownership terms are maintained as part of the track's provenance documentation.
Creator Documentation
Where music originates through an approved outside creator, Shadow Lantern maintains appropriate creator agreements, representations and rights documentation before qualifying material is accepted for licensing.
Partnership Control
Shadow Lantern maintains records supporting its contractual authority to administer and license qualifying catalogue material under the applicable agreements and production arrangements.
Track-Level Records
Catalogue information is maintained at the individual-track level, including identifying information, production records and relevant rights or provenance documentation where applicable.
An Important Distinction
Licensing authority and copyright protection are not the same question.
Copyright protection for material created through artificial intelligence can depend on the jurisdiction, the circumstances of creation and the degree of qualifying human authorship. Shadow Lantern does not represent that every purely AI-generated element necessarily receives statutory copyright protection.
Our licensing position is based on the contractual rights, commercial permissions, assignments and catalogue controls applicable to the material being offered. Where a project requires additional rights information, Shadow Lantern can address those questions as part of the licensing discussion.
Licensing
Designed to make clearance simpler.
Where Shadow Lantern identifies a track as available for one-stop licensing, the objective is straightforward: provide the production with a single licensing point for the rights that Shadow Lantern controls in that material.
Media, territory, term, exclusivity, fees and any project-specific conditions are established as part of the applicable license. Custom commissions are similarly defined around the intended production use before final delivery.
